People come to me because they want to make positive changes in their lives. During the orientation part of our first session I always tell them that being proactive will be key to their success and that we would be discussing this in each session while in hypnosis.

Understanding the concept of being proactive is so important to my hypnosis program. I first learned about it from the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. This is one of the world’s greatest books on self-help and business leadership. Covey says that the first habit of successful people is to be proactive.

What does proactive mean? It means choosing your reaction to stimuli. It is the opposite of being reactive. Science is never proactive only reactive. Do you remember that exploding paper mache volcano from your 4th grade science fair? You know! The one where the kid mixes a certain amount of baking soda with vinegar and a drop of red food coloring. When the chemicals combine at an exact ratio, it causes them to react by a burst of foamy liquid spilling all over the place. That chemical reaction is constant. The same reaction will occur every time.

We humans have an advantage over science and the paper mache volcano. We have a choice in how to react. You may not realize it because we are so conditioned to react with anger when someone cuts us off while driving and delivers a finger gesture. Some even react badly when mom tries to tell us how to do things better. Why does she always have to bother me about eating apples and making sure to save my money? I’m an adult. Why does she always have to get under my skin?

The answer is that mom isn’t doing anything to me. Neither is the guy with poor driving manners. They are being themselves. I used to be reactive and let these things ruin my day. Now I’m proactive and I decide that those people are doing what they feel they need to do. I choose how to react. I choose to smile and have a pleasant day. I choose to be kind and anything that comes of it is like whip cream on the cake of life. And that is what being proactive is all about.

So we know the theory of being proactive but learning to live it is the hard part. That’s where hypnosis and the Drucker Hypnosis Center comes in. As I said earlier, every client learns about being proactive on the first session and this gets reinforced while in hypnosis. The way our minds work is when we hear a good idea, like being proactive, we acknowledge it with our conscious mind and then we get distracted and start thinking of other things. The conscious mind does the analytical work for us but it’s full of fleeting thoughts that make internalizing good ideas so difficult.

In hypnosis we open our subconscious mind where our memories, feelings, thoughts, behaviors, inclinations, preferences, reactions and identity live. Essentially who we are is our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is like an old storage container that has been filling up perceptions and misperceptions since we were small children. It doesn’t analyze the contents of our life. It defines us and is the “why” part of how we live our life.

Only while in a state of hypnosis can this storage bin we call your subconscious mind, open up to examine and question ourselves. Your conscious mind acts as a filter or analyst. We pick through the issues of your subconscious mind and determine what is the truth about you and what have we picked up that is a misperception. Your conscious mind analyzes the misperceptions about you limitations or faults. Anything that isn’t working for you or is getting in your way of happiness gets invalidated and thrown in the trash. You then get the chance to replace mistruths with how you want to feel about yourself, how you want to see the world and how you want to react to life.

In my five-session interactive hypnosis program we go through a different experience each session that is designed to target a different area of feelings that are plaguing you. We not only make peace with the past and help you redesign yourself. We put the power of being proactive into your subconscious mind each session. So you can really live the life you’ve dreamed of!

That’s right. I help you learn to turn the switch inside of you to be proactive. You get to be in control of your moods and reactions despite what your kids are doing or your boss is saying. Challenges will always come your way. It’s how you choose to react that decides the quality of your life and your character. Being proactive is like having superpowers. You’re impervious to the nonsense that bothers others.

Being proactive is a great way to live life. For me, I can handle any challenge that comes my way. It means I can take positive risks in my life, knowing that there is no way I can fail. I can succeed or I can learn. Usually both. I get to choose how I feel about myself. I choose to feel great! I choose to love my work and my family and be honest without ever having to feel ashamed. I am free!

As always, we offer a complimentary phone consultation. Feel free to call the Drucker Hypnosis Center to ask any questions you may have or schedule your first appointment so you can start on your path of freedom and peace!
